I keep half dreaming of turning puppet inside out, just making it a parser with tools that follow a specific api/cli interface.

But also dreaming of a language that could be used for and by whatever.

But… I’m so far from all of it now that the dreams are pretty generic.

@lkanies yeah I think it’s achievable tbh, but my focus isn’t whole machine CM - more about a single app.

Choria has a kind of operator control loop that can run, health check, remediate, rolling upgrades etc. missing piece for it is CM of the one thing.

So a lot smaller scope - package, config, service + hiera is all I need.

The example pkg manager I showed works and supports yum and apt and took 2 hours to POC with Google Antigravity (was mainly looking to check that out)

@lkanies re your generic dreams comment: I think that’s exactly what’s needed.

These CM systems are so complex and involved but we just don’t think that holistically anymore that they became unusable.

Where a standalone command per resource that you can just call in a script (ie platform independent due to providers) is really enough now.

Build it with a API that can be called and make it take simple single file manifest and I think it’s really great fit for current needs tool.
