I've seriously contemplated sticking a server rack in Iceland and hosting an email/communications stack based on privacy and a FOSS stack. The bubbling uproar over #Proton makes it look like that may not be as unrealistic a thought as I first imagined in my ADHD dream.
Oh, and why Iceland over Switzerland?
@rl_dane @alatartheblue in principle the political views of Proton's CEO are their business. However, anyone supporting Trump leaves a bad taste on my mouth, especially when I'm a customer.
It also stands to reason that there's an ulterior motive here because Proton profited greatly from DJT's first presidency term and will probably do so again. This might mean that they'll make business decisions accordingly. And since the cryptobros have had a big hand in Trump's campaign funding, Proton's recent introduction of a crypto wallet app might not be coincidental.
I really don't want to read too much into it but I entrust them with a lot of my sensitive stuff. If I feel like I can't trust them anymore, or don't agree with their course dor the future, I need to move.
