OK! so if you are curious about trying out gotosocial, or if you are tired of doing the manual install thing, I've packaged up version 0.17.3 for x86_64 in my apt repository here: https://apt.technomancy.us/
if you try it out, please let me know how it works! I would like to keep it updated as new versions come out, but of course no guarantees
installing the gotosocial package from my repo will get you set up with an instance running on localhost:8080; once you confirm that is working it's still up to you to configure the correct domain name and either turn on letsencrypt or put up a reverse proxy in front of it to handle TLS
my packaging scripts are at https://git.sr.ht/~technomancy/gotosocial/log/debian/latest but they're pretty rudimentary and extremely not debian-policy-compliant on account of the enormous amount of code that gts vendors and the tremendous amount of work that would be required to package each dependency on its own
(ironically this is finally the thing that has gotten me to stop running my instance out of a tmux pane and into a "proper" managed service)
