@technomancy hm that makes sense... I honestly don't remember what was it specifically that would make emacs hang on my setup, but I do remember it happening... so that might just be a me thing? maybe I should give it a go again

I'm pretty picky about what I will allow to run on my emacs and I understand that may not be viable for everyone: https://git.sr.ht/~technomancy/dotfiles/tree/main/item/.emacs.d/lib
but yeah, I would give it another go; you can use M-x toggle-debug-on-quit to get a stack trace whenever you see it hang; yeet the offender and repeat till it works smoothly?
