(Footnote: When I started this playthrough - still thinking this was a cozy game about growing up, which just happened to be set on an alien planet - I mentioned that I decided to have my character be a girl, because the character portrait in the beginning of the game *really* looked like a little kid I used to know (the daughter of an old friend of mine).
It doesn't exactly *help* with playing through this cavalcade of horrors that now that my character is in her teens, she looks *even more* like that person did at that age.
