@yo Sure, I don't particularly mind systemd, I just haven't learned how to use it yet. The advantage with cron is that I already know how to use it, except when it turns out I don't, hehe.

I'm completely put off by containers and all that devops stuff. I might be forced to learn it one day, but not today.

@modulux IMHO systemd has a learning curve but that's unavoidable. And then it really addresses many traditional quirks, etc. I particularly like "user" functionality; you can define services/timers/etc. associated to your Linux user without using the root user. For timers it's not as powerful, but definitely writing systemd services is much nicer than the alternatives.
