@drewdevault This is why appreciate the work on IRCv3 (esp. Soju/Senpai/Gamja/Goguma), and the main reason I pay for sr.ht- the out of the box modern IRC setup (although I run my own Soju instance...).

Matrix's complexity can be adequate for privacy chats, but for "public community chats" I think it's not the best solution. I feel with a bit more work, IRC can be better than anything else for community chat.
