IFTAS asked what people needed to run servers and then did their best to make them. The things they made resonate very strongly with the needs Darius and I heard about in our fediverse governance research last year:

There are a lot of new institutions springing up around this stuff, ans I hope they work out, but none have yet shown IFTAS’s level of interest and sensitivity to what fedi server teams actually want and need from their safety tooling, so this feels rough.
@fastfinge ah, then I'd suggest NFSv3 over the VPN (I missed that you had already mentioned you had a VPN).
I use NFSv3 over a VPN and it works quite well. You could also use Samba/CIFS if you want to share with other operating systems.
Traditionally, local file systems do not perform well over the Internet and are unsafe. But a VPN takes care of security, and with fiber, I find NFS and Samba decent.
@modulux @fastfinge NFS (even v3) with a VPN would be fine. I use it and works fine. I proposed Syncthing in the top post of this thread too.
There's a distinct lack of WAN-friendly shared filesystems. So I would suggest either VPN + traditional shared filesystem, syncthing, or something SSH-based (like the rclone you are already using, or the already suggested sshfs).
@fastfinge what kind of files?
I would consider syncthing as an option in some scenarios. It requires more disk space (files are synchronized) and potentially can have conflicts. But on the other hand, you can continue using files if the connection is broken, and latency is 0.
Otherwise sshfs or an sftp mount could be fine.
There are more sophisticated solutions, if you have very demanding requirements.

(O más bien, C++ es un lenguaje extraordinario. La mayoría de lenguajes manejan esto con limitaciones similares a Java.)
@yawin yo no me liaría. Hay muy pocos tipos numéricos en Java. Acabas antes haciendo distintas versiones a mano.
Diría que solo lo puedes hacer genérico mediante reflection, si te importa lo más mínimo el rendimiento no lo hagas.
Nota: hace mil que no toco estas cosas y me puedo estar olvidando de algo básico.
@yawin los genéricos de Java no tienen nada que ver con los templates de C++,y menos aún para tipos numéricos. No estoy muy puesto en C++, T sería cualquier tipo al que se puede castear un double?

@aperalesf @mr_rookes @luiseme sin estudiar el protocolo de Signal, asumiría que se podrá saber quién habla con quién, y sigue estando basando en números de teléfono, con lo que no es perfecto... pero al menos Signal es bastante transparente.
(No me gusta Signal. Pero está bastante pensado y en muchos sentidos es mejor que muchas alternativas.)
No es por hacer FUD, pero es todo muy complicado:
@mr_rookes @aperalesf @luiseme Signal es bastante transparente. El protocolo E2EE está publicado y te puedes compilar los clientes. Por el uso de E2EE, es **algo** demostrable que Signal no te puede espiar **mucho**.
Esto no descarta que el protocolo tenga vulnerabilidades conocidas por el gobierno de EEUU, pero en teoría **cualquiera** podría localizarlas.
Recordatorio periódico de que la accesibilidad es para todos. En este ordenador todavía no había ajustado mi opción de accesibilidad preferida, y estaba teniendo problemas.
Entro en las opciones de accesibilidad, subo el tamaño del puntero del ratón, productividad incrementada.
(Llevo gafas, pero mi vista es bastante razonable. Será que estoy mayor.)
(De las pocas cosas que envidio de macOS: agitar el ratón para que se haga más grande. Pero igualmente hay que agrandar el tamaño por defecto.)
